![]() Ralph Eldren Pauley October 4, 1925 — August 11, 2005
Birthplace: Arkansas City, Kansas
Ceremony On August 11,2005, Ralph E. Pauley moved from this life's performance to his celestial musical engagement. He started his musical career in White Deer High School, then to the US Army, Sul Ross College (Alpine, Texas), Del Rio, Texas and then to Bellingham. He has left a musical legacy to hundreds of students; to his children and grandchildren touching each with respect and love. He spent 30 years as a music teacher, providing knowledge and direction to those who lovingly called him "Uncle Ralph." He was a talented musician who played bass fiddle with the 142nd Division Army Band. He played with many jazz and swing bands throughout his life. He was the Band Director at Bellingham High School from 1960-1980 and has been the Director of the BHS Alumni Red Raider Band for the past eight years "We knew a man who had his own band. 300 strong they stood at command, The Bellingham High School Alumni Red Raider Band From 18 to 80 they stood by his side To play for a city, a school, to play for the man. It is an honor to play for the Music Man. We marched straight and tall for the Music Man. We gave it our all for the Music Man- our mentor, our teacher our friend." After that first parade in 1998, Ralph said, "I could die today and be the happiest man around!" He often repeated this after a parade or concert. The BHS Alumni Band gave his family eight extra years. Ralph was an avid outdoorsman. He loved the Pacific Northwest. After coming here to attend his brother's (Ray Pauley) funeral in 1959, his devoted wife Donna and two children Gayle and Glenn moved to Bellingham. You could often find him fishing in the rivers, reef-netting in Legoe Bay, or hunting in the Cascades. He shared his love of the land, sea, and music with his grandchildren: Daniel, Vivian, and Ray, always giving his strength and unquestioned love to them. He welcomed Rosann and John into his family and loved his Bellingham daughter, Patty and her family. His Bellingham High School Alumni Band sons and daughters will always be part of his family. His presence will be missed by many. His love will always be with each person he has touched and each of us will always hear his music. Memorials may be made to Bellingham High School Alumni Band Music Scholarship, 4354 Northwest Dr., Bellingham, WA 98226. A funeral service will be held Saturday, August 20, at 2:00 PM, at Greenacres Moles Funeral Home. Arranged by ... GreenAcres | Moles Funeral Home
